Show the conversion ratio

What do you mean by unit conversion ratio?
Do you mean 1 km = 1000m kind of thing should be displayed?
But then a child can always select the two units and enter 1 to get the unit conversion.

A child may not know they can enter 1 to get the conversion, if they have yet to master the mathematics of unity. But being shown a formula with a constant for the conversion may be instructive. I guess I'd like pedagogy input.

the ratio is displayed as the result of a calculation of a unity measurement, but it is more conventional to explain unit conversion where possible as whole numbers; resolving the ratio into the lowest common denominator.

@quozl How exactly would this be displayed as?
Taking the example of inches and centimeters, 1 inch = 2.54 cm
Would this conversion be displayed as 100 inches = 254 cm?

I don't know. It would vary by unit. I've not surveyed all units. It would depend on the basis of conversion. Inches to SI units are a special case, as they are defined against SI units.

1 inch = 25.4 mm
1 inch = 2.54 cm
1 inch = 0.254 dm

Some conversions can't be easily framed as a ratio, e.g. Google Search explains temperature conversion thus; "convert celsius fahrenheit" yields "formula (0°C × 9/5) + 32 = 32°F",

Yes, the temperature conversion would not be a single ratio, but rather an equation. I failed to realise this earlier.
Yes, I agree now. Non-SI units need to be handled differently, and showing just a ratio would not be learning.

One way to tackle the problem is by cataloguing all the formulas of conversion between different units and creating a database. I shall update the patch towards the new approach.
